Kwanzaa Palace Party
Our partners, the sisters of Pink Panther Sorority Inc. will be hosting their 2nd annual Kwanzaa Palace Party at the West Oakland Youth Center, Saturday December 17th from 3:00-7:30pm.
This is a holiday event for black families to come out dressed up as the royal being we are! African Kings, Queens, Princes and of course PRINCESSES !
Kwanzaa brings a cultural message which speaks to the best of what it means to be African and human in the fullest sense.
As we approach a trying time in American politics it is imperative for people of color to be equipt with knowledge of SELF. In order to achieve this goal spaces that nurture the history and culture of African/African Americans must be created!
The holiday, then will of necessity, be engaged as an ancient and living cultural tradition which reflects the best of African thought and practice in its reaffirmation of the dignity of the human person in community and culture, the well-being of family and community, the integrity of the environment and our kinship with it, and the rich resource and meaning of a people's culture.
The event will house the essential steps of celebrating Kwanzaa, explaining, in detail, the Kwanzaa symbols, principles, gift giving guidelines, hair styles, Kwanzaa foods, and the daily Kwanzaa activities which make-up the Kwanzaa celebration.
We will also have food, games, performances and much more!
