My name is Khalila Webb. I am in the 11th grade and I attend McClymonds High School. I Love food and I love sports. My goal is to be an Attorney, if I don’t make the WNBA. My favorite sport is basketball, my favorite team is OKC, and my favorite football team is the San Francisco 49ers. I am a risky person, which means I will most likely try anything. My favorite animal is a Cheetah. My favorite color is purple because it means royalty and it’s a fun and mindful color.
My name is Taron Giddens, and I'm from West Oakland. I am a really chill person. My favorite thing to do is relax and be me. What I want out of my community is for everyone to come together and be one with each other. That’s what I want to do here through the WOYC.
My name is Kendrick Cunningham. I am currently 22 years old. I love and have played many sports throughout my life such as basketball, football, and soccer. I feel like God gave me the gift of athletic abilities and I want to put them to good use. I have grown up traveling to various cities, and states such as Texas, New York, Missouri, and Florida. It’s been great exploring different things and meeting new people. This is what led me to the West Oakland Youth Center, where I have met and gained some really good friends. Everyone is so loving, caring, and responsible. Who needs to look for friends and reliable people when I have them already! I am proud to be an employee of the West Oakland Youth Center and hope that I will help it grow, to help others just like me find good friends with good intentions.
My name is Alejandro Ruiz and I was born in Berkeley, but raised in Oakland . I’m currently attending Bunche Academy as an 11th grader. I will be graduating in the year 2017 and am planning to go straight into the military after I graduate. My main goal is to find a stable job with a good job pay and help my mom out as much as possible. On my free time I like to go play soccer, spend time with my mom, and draw. My favorite food is cheesecake, there's something about it that draws me to it. One thing I hope to accomplish is to help my community, or give something back to the community.
My name is Sheri Roberson and I am a 25 year young Oakland Native. Growing up in West Oakland there are many hardships due to the environment around you, as well as many of the people. As I got older I found out how difficult it could be to not participate in certain activities that would draw me away from showing my full potential. I attended Hoover Elementary as a child then later went to Carter Middle school. Freshman and Sophomore year I attended Oakland Tech and Ralph Bunche (due to messing up in school, cutting classes and putting things before my studies). In 2005 I transferred to Dewey where I graduated in 2006. Now anybody from Oakland and the nearby cities have a picture of which kinds of kids go to what we call “continuation schools”. I was considered that type of kid. Eventually I got my act together and was able to receive my High School diploma a year later, which was a huge accomplishment because I pushed myself when everyone lost faith in me after mistakes I made. That experience is why I am who I am today, persevering through what I learned. Taking bad situations and turning them into something positive and also using my downfalls to help uplift and encourage others.
